Go green on Instagram!

Five eco-friendly social networks you should be following to boost your #ActionForWater

The power of social media is without a doubt ever-increasing, and the way we use it is quite literally in our hands to shape. Information and entertainment are readily available and the impact increases with every like, share and follow.

Instagram has created a sense of community for many of its users and has become a highly creative platform for people, brands and networks to reach niche audiences. I’ve come to love using my social media presence to share messages I care about with my community, and with many incredible resources popping up across channels, it’s easy to stay informed and engaged - if you’re looking in the right places.

We’re highlighting our current favourite accounts that we believe spark creativity, learning, unlearning (an important step!) and living in a way that affects real environmental action, advocacy and respect.

Here are our top five accounts to turn your Instagram “green.”

Greenpeace is one of the original environmental organizations that now boasts a large global network. We suggest following their Canadian channel for close-to-home updates, campaigns and ways to support local initiatives. Their mission is to campaign for a green and peaceful future and to engage individuals to take action to protect the planet. From petitions to news stories to creative efforts, there’s a little bit for everyone shared on their platform – there’s even an anti-racism toolkit for environmentalists on their website – essential reading for anyone who cares about the environment and each other. You can find it here.
