A unique, breakthrough initiative unites film festivals from across Canada to co-present a one-of-a-kind water and climate-themed virtual documentary film festival.
With thanks to our presenting partners in taking a stand for a liveable climate.
Watch ON DEMAND until November 30
In celebration of the Water Docs 10th anniversary, the ReSurge Festival opened with a week of live streamed events. We’d like to thank our host, Rick Miller and our presenting partners, Hot Docs, What About Water?, the Guelph Film Festival, the Ontario Water Works Association (Toronto Student Chapter), the BANFF World Media Festival and the Vancouver Shorts Film Festival. It is with their support that ReSurge: Canadian Film Festivals for a Liveable Climate was introduced to Canada and abroad.
With a focus on water and climate protection, together we watched some of the most moving and impactful environmental documentaries from around the world - many of which had their Canadian premieres with us! Each live stream concluded with an engaging filmmaker discussion that we hope inspired our viewers.

“We were awestruck by the overwhelming willingness of so many top local and national film festivals to join forces with us to mount ReSurge – more than tripling our expectations on potential partners.”

““Climate change is sometimes misunderstood as being about changes in the weather. In reality, it is about changes in our very way of life.””
Every time I enter the ocean, it shows me something beautiful and unexpected. I’m looking for sharks, and a fin whale surfaces, breath bursting into fine mist. Sea lion pups encourage me to play, spinning in the water, swimming fast then turning on a dime and blowing bubbles. Floating at the surface, a comb jelly mesmerises me with rainbow bands of bioluminescence.
