Burning Water

Specs: CANADA | 2010 | 42.5m
Filmmakers: Cameron Esler & Tadzio Richards
Themes: gas, fracking, livelihood

In the Rosebud River valley, an hour east of Calgary, the water in many homes can be lit on fire. Everyone agrees there’s gas in the water. Few agree on why. The valley is a place full of stories, and storytellers describe diverse and conflicting tales about the origins of the gas. Rosebud is a place where fact collides with fiction, and the town’s future depends on whose story is believed.
